Contact of Rough Surfaces: An Incremental Model Accounting for Strain Gradient Plasticity

نویسندگان

چکیده

In the contact of rough surfaces, most patches are at scale micrometers, and thus, their deformation can be dominated by size-dependent plasticity. this paper, we propose a new strategy to analyze role strain gradient plasticity in response between realistic surface rigid plane, which modifies incremental model based on mechanism-based (MSGP) theory. For several different surfaces with topography measured experimentally, relations applied load real area derived simple but effective way. It is found that significantly increases level mean pressure. The hardening effect caused weakens somewhat as increases. Compared previous methods, present might more efficient wider application.

Contact mechanics for randomly rough surfaces

When two solids are squeezed together they will in general not make atomic contact everywhere within the nominal (or apparent) contact area. This fact has huge practical implications and must be considered in many technological applications. In this paper I briefly review the basic theories of contact mechanics. I consider in detail a recently developed contact mechanics theory. I derive bounda...

Contact between representative rough surfaces.

A numerical analysis of mechanical frictionless contact between rough self-affine elastic manifolds was carried out. It is shown that the lower cutoff wave number in surface spectra is a key parameter controlling the representativity of the numerical model. Using this notion we demonstrate that for representative surfaces the evolution of the real contact area with load is universal and indepen...

Quasi-static Evolution for a Model in Strain Gradient Plasticity

We prove the existence of a quasistatic evolution for a model in strain gradient plasticity proposed by Gurtin and Anand concerning isotropic, plastically irrotational materials under small deformations. This is done by means of the energetic approach to rate-independent evolution problems. Finally we study the asymptotic behavior of the evolution as the strain gradient length scales tend to ze...

Two-scale Homogenization for a Model in Strain Gradient Plasticity

Using the tool of two-scale convergence, we provide a rigorous mathematical setting for the homogenization result obtained by Fleck and Willis (J. Mech. Phys. Solids, 2004) concerning the effective plastic behaviour of a strain gradient composite material. Moreover, moving from deformation theory to flow theory, we prove a convergence result for the homogenization of quasistatic evolutions in t...
